How to do research
1. http://francisseanryan.blogspot.com/2009/05/do-research-to-solve-any-problem.html

If you only remember one technique
1. Work hard to be the best in what you do.
http://francisseanryan.blogspot.com/2009/05/only-one-method-that-can-bring.html

The 4 Supports
1.Trauma Releasing Exercises :: A revolutionary new method for stress/trauma recovery by David Berceli. We have this book.
2.The three laws of performance by Steve Zaffron.
3.
The When You're Falling, Dive: Lessons in the Art of Living (Paperback) by Mark Matouse
4.
The Practicing Mind: Bringing Discipline and Focus Into Your Life (Paperback) by Thomas M. Sterne

Misc
1. You have to be a bit bad guy to survive in this world. Watch Chronicals of Riddick movie.
2. Tumo meditation : People can go without food or sleep for months. Can heal any disease.
3. Lights out by TS Wiley
4. If you dont work, what would you do?
5. If he can do it, why cant you do it, he is just a human.
6. Chinese kung fu masters usually cannot last more than 20 seconds with muay thai guys, because chinese masters though have the technique but dont have the experience of being hit so
hard. Thus to be strong in this world. You need to accept and bear hardship, dont complain or resist, so your brain can rewire and adapt with its high plasticity nature. Once you get use to it,
you would not think the hardship is hardship anymore, and you will be competent and dominate. This is the secret of acceptance.
7. The only that works in new age is mindfulness, the less is bullshit, believe me i have been to the dead roads many years.
8. You may have a lot of shoulder pain. The pain could be due to your neck. Use you finger to press all over your neck, should, and even scalp, especially the area between bone and muscle. When you feel pain, press hard on the painful spot for 1 minute, repeat. When pressured for more than 1 minute the knotted muslce/tendon will relax. Read trigger point therapy. When you shoulder is in pain it could due to your neck or scalp if not your shoulder. I once have shoulder pain but press everywhere on shoulder can find pain, neck also no very painful spot when pressed, and i finally find it on my skull!
9. Top Secret: The Truth Behind Today's Pop Mysticisms (Hardcover) by Robert M. Price

Detachment and reason owns new age bs

After i read the "if you are falling, dive" book, i immediately feel depression setting in. Sometimes this new age healing stuff is more like chasing a castle in the sky. It is masochistic self induce pain for perverse enjoyment. Self mutilation. i have been doing this stuff for some years with close to no relieve. In fact the more i do it the more pain i felt. Something is wrong iwth this grand new age narrative, it is probably a countereaction of christianiaty.

Immediately i detach myself. And thus 4 discipline tools below always works, we need a spacesuit in this hostile world to get this done, letting outside world into the space suit is equivalent to perverse self multilation:

1. Detachment.
2. Break bigger things into smaller things.
3. Do things one at a time.
4. Reward yourself.

The 4 discipline tools is the yan system, it should be the main system, because physical survival is always the first criteria, it works, and it doesnt take time. The yin system like the new age can be done a bit sometimes for fun or when you control the physical world to the point of boredom, but remember that the new age system for me is sometimes no different than perversed self mutilation. Balance ying and yang. Detachment gives you back control, new age release your control and puts the blame on yourself like neo chritianity.

This book is a nice book, reading it is like a fresh air given by true reasoning provided by high philosphy, compared to the illogicalness and bs of new age books. Most new age are really seriously logically flawed,
Top Secret: The Truth Behind Today's Pop Mysticisms (Hardcover) by Robert M. Price

Being with Oracle is like being with a woman

Sean Ryan when you work on Oracle, never work on competition too much, it will destroy Oracle fun. Work for the love of Oracle so the joy of Oracle will exist there for you.

You must love something deeply so life you can get the honey life can offer.

There is a fractalness about life. Everything is the same, Oracle, poker, chess, xbox, go, physics, maths, philosophy, painting, poetry, karate. Oracle is everything. So when you do Oracle you are actually playing chess. But Oracle has more advantage then the rest which i explained in why Oracle is so good in knowledge crystal.

Play your Oracle, dont care about who is better, instead just focus on exploring more on Oracle on your own terms, be alone with Oracle like being iwth a woman alone, that time you should take the rare oppotunity to enjoy the woman alone and not think about comparing dicks.

The three laws of performance

Looks like a really good book, i read until chapter 2 last night.

It could be used in conjunction with mindfulness

The only way to success is deliberate practice

Deliberate practice, no other way

Talent Is Overrated: What Really Separates World-Class Performers from Everybody Else

http://www.amazon.com/Talent-Overrated-Separates-World-Class-Performers/dp/1591842247/ref=pd_sim_b_15

The dip book

This little gem of a book has guided me through many times i want to give up.

http://www.amazon.com/Dip-Little-Book-Teaches-Stick/dp/1591841666/ref=pd_sim_b_94

- Winners quit (regroup. cut their losses, switch gears) whenever necessary on the path to winning.

- Be the best, and the world comes knocking at your door.

- Work through the pain, because the reward is waiting for you further down the road.

The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick)

Brain rules

The book describes eerily what i found out by experience and recorded down in my study technique, especially II and III.

http://www.amazon.com/Brain-Rules-Principles-Surviving-Thriving/dp/0979777747/ref=pd_sim_b_15

I. Some parts of the brain are just like a baby's and can grow new connections and strengthen existing connections. We have the ability to learn new things our entire life. Medina states this was "not the prevailing notion until 5 or 6 years ago." So much for the "you can't teach and old dog new tricks excuse." The old dog line is exposed for what it really is...an excuse.

II. Humans can only pay attention for about ten minutes and then need some kind of reset.

III. The brain can only focus on one thing at a time. This is further rationale on the futility of multi-tasking.

IV. Exercise increases brain power and aerobic exercise twice a week reduces the risk of general dementia by 50% and Alzheimer's by 60%.

V. There is a biological need for an afternoon nap.

VI. The brain is very active during sleep and loss of sleep hurts cognitive and physical ability.

Mindfulness is still king

There are only two type of happiness technique i teach you, the first one is mindfulness the rest are cognitive techniques.

Only in mindfulness i am awake and feel alive.

Putting on mindfulness is like putting on iron cloth on you to prevent the stress all around you from coming in.

All other techniques are useless without mindfulness to give the base.

The Three Laws of Performance by steve zaffron

looks like a very good book. i am getting it from the library.

read the reviews at amazon to know more about the book. And its orange!

http://landmarkeducationreviews.com/2009/05/12/three-laws-of-performance-my-thoughts/

"The third idea is what I think gives one power, the idea that future based language transforms how things occur to people, or in essence, transforms our thoughts. It’s kind of like this for me: if you go through a day with no plan or vision, your actions are given by whatever random thoughts go through your head that day, good bad or ugly. When you are actively creating a future, looking forward to it, anticipating it, “living into it”, as someone at Landmark Education might say, your actions are still given your thoughts, but your thoughts are focused into the satisfaction that will result from having that vision come through, and are disciplined by the anticipated future. If you’re getting out of prison tomorrow, it’s amazing how the random thoughts of despair will disappear."

The goal of life is excellence

This is the insight that i have today. i heard this phrase in a french movie about women judges fighting corruption. But only today i united the threads that lead to this insight.

1. Happiness can be only achieved with trying for excellence in what you do. The japanese got it right. Sculture, Oracle, karate, painting, chess, poker you name it.

2. For the zoos gorillas, they are well fed with lots of toys. But they are bored to death due to lack of novelty. They have no excellence to rescue them. Whereas Dirac can hide in a room for ten years to get quantum field out, a go weiqi master hide in his room as well, kant also, the creater of GNU. Excellence keep making the thing toward perfection, is the cure for the novelty problem.

3. When you are engross in make something perfectly, you tend to think less about your enemies. There is a study when there is no outside threat, a group tend to fight among themselves for trivial matters. You wont be ensnare with too much trivial matters.

4. Getting enlightened, being perfectly calm, getting lots of money will not bring happiness.

5. Money will come by itself because the excellent you do is in demand.

6. Hard work is actually secondary compared to achieve excellence.

7. Achiving excellence is actually the driving force of evolution or god. When we are striving for excellence we are actually not going against the flow.

8. There are books about evolutionary mechnaics that describe this phenomena i forgot what is the title.

9. This book also describe this phenome:

Thick black theory: The one book i want Sean Ryan to read

On the other hand, if this is the only book my sons would read, this is it: The thick black theory. It is said that when Chin Chu Nin came to the USA from china she only brought one book that can fit into her small luggage, this is the book. Thick black theory it is said "works everytime".

Thick face: Kill your shame.

Black heart: Have a goal and resolve to get things done.

Actually we dont need to look at all those fluffy self help. We only have to look at how the communist survived the long march in china. They have a ideal a dream (black heart), shamelessness to get things done (thick face).

1-The 4 practice and 4 philosophy

The four practice and philosophy I want my sons to know.
The four practice:

Karate builds your character and confidence. With karate you can confront any problem.

I have played chess, go, philosophy, enlightenment,
psychology, poetry, karate, bridge, computational fluid dynamics, quantum theory, xbox, hacking, game programming, women, all of them are roughly the same if you look deep enough. Oracle is the best toy because it is quite inexhaustable, only need a laptop, and you can make lots of money playing it.

Poker no limit holdem contains the essence of all human interactions. Know poker know people.
And emotion is always started by other people, then know poker know emotion.
Know also game theory. And you have to a 40% bad guy to survive in this world. Watch Chronicles of Riddick.

Mindfulness for many years is still the most effective stress buster.

The four philosophy:

Probably the most important system:
1. Break big task down into smaller ones. Do it with anything: difficult job, difficult people.
2. Schedule your fun time.
3. Pretend that the big task is easy or is a normal day to day activity

No shame because in this deterministic universe controlled by conditions arising, you have absolutely no choice in what you do. Intrinsically linked to Learned Optimism.

Research found out that people that are resilient believe these things:
1. The bad situation is not your fault.
2. The bad situation is temporary.
3. The bad situation only affect a

You have to control your material world first in order to be happy. There is no other way.

The world demand people that are good. To be good at anything you must put in 10,000 hours.

The When You're Falling, Dive: Lessons in the Art of Living (Paperback)

by Mark Matouse

http://www.amazon.com/When-Youre-Falling-Dive-Lessons/dp/1596913703/ref=pd_sim_b_1

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful:
5.0 out of 5 stars Choosing to live, February 7, 2009
By J. P. Reynolds (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The sub-title, lessons in the art of living, speaks to what this luminous book is all about. The stories and profiles are of people just like you or me. People who quietly live and love, and then come to a moment in their life for which there is no preparation. In that moment, they are forced to choose--do I or do I not become the hero of my own life?
Some might liken these to "profiles in courage," yet I suspect that the people profiled would not lay claim to the word "courage." They are people who simply embrace the desire to choose. They are women and men who, with faith and hope, "dive" into the mystery of life and love.
While reading this book I wondered if I could live, will I live, as those profiled have chosen to live--tapping into the best and bravest of who they are.
The book cheers, confuses, and astonishes. It reminds us that the arbitrary and the seemingly senseless do not have to define who we are and who we will become.
If I could have only ten books in my library, this would be would one of them.

In poker, just like life, there is a lot of unknown, so you need courage to follow the best guess. Oracle and chess cannot develop this.

4 practice Mindfulness is still king, the four may jewels are still fluff, mindfulness is musculin

Yesterday I was in deep agony because pissed off with someone, archetype took over, cannot relax, cannot sleep, cannot stop thinking.

Tried buteyko breathing no work. Tried David Ord mirror of christ thinking no work. Open focus brain was just feeble.

But mindfulness like a sword immediately cut right throw and give detachment and control back.

Buteyko compare with mindfulness is not that powerful, and not that practical because most of time i would not think of doing it, with mindfulness only naturally control regain and relaxation comes back

Open focus brain is just too feeble.

Present process is quite fluffy compare to sword like mindfulness, there are unnecessary philosophy.

Mindfulness is musculine.

I am juggling between high philosophy and mindfulness, but now prefer mindfulness because philosophy you need to keep reading high philosophy books. Mindfulness you can do it anywhere without anything.

The David Berceli Trauma release exercise is still under obervance.

Whenever i get close to new age stuff like open fcous brain, i am getting lazy and avoiding suffering, avoiding hard work, and forbearnce. Thus grunt force is lost.

The 4 practice and philosophy i taught you are musculine, simple nothing fancy, and straightforward but powerful like a knife. No

The 4 May Jewels

1. Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE)
2. Open focus brain
3. The forgotten self by David Ord
4. The present process

Monday, May 18, 2009

Assorted thoughts II

- i realize this morning all is mind and i can use it to my advantage like situation in poker
, there is no right and wrong

- I realize this morning i am not doing one thing at a time. that why i am so stressed.

-"Nothing, likewise, has surfaced to suggest it has gone to his head. While some players have spent more time promoting their image away from the tables than winning tournaments at them, Ivey stays focused on being just a guy who really likes what he does for a living, letting the fame and fortune sort itself out."

sean ryan sometimes you have to love what you do, and foget about the rest like competition or fame or money.

-the trauma release process is related to present process like "creating a safe space" etc.

- Mike caro tells about when people have bad cards they keep looking at it. well in online poker if somebody takes a long time to react that means they have borderline cards. works for me.

A- The trauma releasing exercise (TRE)

Edit May 31, 2009

Got the book from Amazon this Friday but i cannot get my legs to tremble, probably did karate too much.

The exercises are quite simple, quite like the ones we did in karate, just pumping and stretching on the legs, and finally lying down with the legs with feet touching knee spread out like a diamond shape. I uploaded the details to freedrive.

Old post
Probably the only efficient method that would work instead of other (slow) spiritual techniques like mindfulness.

The Revolutionary Trauma Release Process: Transcend Your Toughest Times by David Berceli and PhD (Paperback - Aug 29, 2008)

I have been searching all over the book stores and library couldnt find the book in singapore. But this link seem to suggest the exercise involves shaking the body on the floor:

http://www.booksurge.com/Trauma-Releasing-Exercises-TRE-A-revolutionary/A/1419607545.htm

I have read several books about healing post traumatic stress disorder, and this is by far the most helpful. Other books, such as Judith Herman's excellent Trauma and Recovery, explain what PTSD is and what its symptoms are, and how a therapist can help her client heal, but this book is a self-help book, in the best sense of the word. It enables a person suffering from PTSD to heal herself.

The first part of the book explains how the brain responds to traumatic experiences, and why humans have a hard time shrugging off trauma, unlike wild animals. ( For more on this subject, see Waking the Tiger, by Levine.) It discusses the various responses to a traumatic experience, including freezing, in addition to the better-known fight or flight response. It demonstrates how a history of trauma in communities leads to cycles of war and violence.

The last part of the book is the most valuable part: the chapter on how to do the trauma releasing exercises. These exercises stress the muscles of the lower body, inducing a shaking or tremor that mimics an animal's natural response to trauma. In the final exercise, you lie on the floor and shake, literally, for up to fifteen minutes. Suffice it to say, you feel better afterwards. A lot better.

I found that I sometimes had some sad feelings about the traumatic events in my life after doing these exercises, but the overwhelming fear and rage were gone. And I felt more like being with other people. This parallels Herman's model of the three stages of recovery: safety, then mourning, then reintegration into one's community. The trauma releasing exercises accelerate the first stage, by a great deal.

This is not to say that you don't have to make sure you're safe. You do. Patriarchy is a dangerous system to live in, and it hurts both women and men. Once you are over your trauma, find ways to stay safe, but keep these exercises in your medicine cabinet.'

Your Forgotten Self: Mirrored in Jesus the Christ

No amount of positive thinking or chi qung can reduce stress except the Buteyko method

i notice that whenever i lay down immediately i feel better especially in late night time, no amount of positive thinking can achieve this. the only thing that change when i lie down is the blood flow to my brain.

But lying down and trepanation is not a practical alternative. Then i found out the link that increase CO2 in body can lead to increase blood vessel size.
http://francisseanryan.blogspot.com/2009/05/probably-all-positive-thinking-method.html

The body need to maintain a certain amount of co2. During stress, the body overbreaths and there is not enough CO2, so the body reacts by constricting the blood vessels which cause a negative cycle.

The Buteyko method is actually just shallow and light breathing so the CO2 can be inside the body.

Thus Buteyko shallow breathing to increase CO2 in the body is the most practical method. Carrying a plastic bag around is not practical, but you can do shallow breathing everywhere. whenever i do shallow breathing i feel my hands warming up and better.

The constriction of micro-vessels of the brain is the cause of bad brain's blood supply. It is the source of such illnesses as dizziness, insomnia, migraine, a memory weakness. All these symptoms inevitably leads to stroke in the long run.
What about drugs people are using for treatment chronic diseases? The main defect of all drugs and recipes is but one - they gives temporary relief only. They all have unhealthy by-effects. People get used to them and must change them periodically. Worst of all - all known drugs can't influence on source of chronic diseases !
The best alternative treatment of a weak, bad blood circulationis is self-healing breathing device simulator TFI, because breathing device TFI expanding arterioles to a normal condition, restores normal blood supply of all the cells of all the tissues of all the bodies of our organism. Consequently, they start functioning normally; pathologies disappear.
The Natural Health Restoration Complex (TFI) has been honoured with the gold medal at the Worldwide Forum for Inventions and New technologies in Brussels (1999), with the silver medal at the Worldwide Fair in Paris (2000) and the gold medal at the First International Innovations and Investments Show in Moscow (2001).
It will relieve you of illnesses.

My poker understanding increase ten fold!

After reading Daniel Negreanu small ball strategy, i switch paradigm to play the opponent psychology instead of using my own fixed formula or agenda.

How i read Heads up poker by Collin Moshman and wow i finally understood some concepts:
why we need to value bet, how to counter loose passive players, call or raise (call to get info and pot odds), bluffing multiple streets.

I just pick some chapters i want to read because my mind automatically knows what vitamins it need. CHeck out the scanning method in Treasure CHest.

Do things with force

Once a collegue told me, you must do things with force then only you have the character to suceed. In chinese " Go Li". People respect you also.

Philosophy properly builds another world

We are simbolic creatures. And philosophy builds the simbolic world inside our head to a new world.

No matter how many oracle we do, without high philosophy we are just grunts barely conscous. Philosophy let me inhabit a civilized world where there is inteligence and conscousness.

Philosophy can construct a new world out of thin air where i can live in

Hara, tandien

When you are feeling anxious or sad or angry or fearful.

Do a horse stance or sumo stance or shikodachi in karate. It will calm you immeditely.

Or focus on one -two inches below your navel. It is the center that will coordinate your chi.

Acceptance: So your brain plasticity can get to work

Chinese kung fu masters usually cannot last more than 20 seconds with muay thai guys, because chinese masters though have the technique but dont have the experience of being hit so hard. Thus to be strong in this world. You need to accept and bear hardship, dont complain or resist, so your brain can rewire and adapt with its high plasticity nature. Once you get use to it, you would not think the hardship is hardship anymore, and you will be competent and dominate. This is the secret of acceptance.

Suffering is actually void in hiding

The other day i was in deep stress about tomorrows job. Couldn't sleep. As well feeling emptiness and hopelessness of singapore life.

But i decided to mental merge with the pain. And after i merge with the pain, the pain i realize is exactly the void i experience in meditation! It is boundless and peaceful.

If you are a young, serious competitor, then what your coach is asking you to do is commonly accepted as one of the most basic ways to score. A top competitor must go beyond this to win at the highest levels, but will have first mastered the technique your coach is asking you to practice.

Don't look for specific reasons; the whole is greater then the sum of its parts. If you are extra tall, fantastic; assuming you are coordinated, and quick enough, you will be able to strike at a greater distance then your shorter opponents. If they are faster then you, still OK; you have the size to hit them as they come in before they can reach you.
