The best hobbies : Oracle, Go, and Karate

Karate is good but we cant do it all the time because of changing circumstances and body fatigue.

But Oracle tuning is great, get a PC, install free Oracle, download a free study database, get a couple of good Oracle books ready, and you set yourself a lab in your room! Tuning oracle is like tuning a race car minus all the expensive equipment.

The other one is go or weiqi. Go you dont have to study a lot of books or advance techniques to enjoy for the rest of your life. Just the follwing four books

Unwinding the belly : Chi Nei Tsang

Just received the book Unwinding the belly from Amazon.

I tried the technique once and it works, i was very stressed out before because cannot practice karate with the h1n1 going on around. I feel very relaxed afterwards. Not sure is the deep breathing that works or the abdominal message. No more flashback of work problems.

will try it every morning, could use it to replace mindfulness.

Always go back to basic and great go books

In karate especially Shitoryu karate the emphasis is on kihon, the basic moves. When practicing the emphasis is to make the basic moves to perfection instead of fancy technics, most of the time is on practicing the basic moves.

A poker player said a sales person told him there is no secret short cut to sales, just keep on making lots of calls.

So in go or wei qi, or poker, or pracle succeeding at life always go back to basic make sure your foundation is solid. Because advanceness is just a combination of basics.

In wei qi for example, to really enjoy wei qi, you only need to read this basic books

When i study wei qi i read lots of basic books but i only scan through them and went on to advance books then for a long time a lot of years my wei qi is still weak because i couldnt get the basics right. only recently i read the above books my go improved a great deal. Also watch some go postgame analysis in youtube by all those 5 dan pro korean woman. Go board game is a very good friend to be with you during hard times, better than a wife or girlfriend.

Same thing with Oracle and karate, get your basics right, always go back to basic

Paradoxical opposite and tuning

Paradoxical polarity ; in all aspect of life there is always two opposite polarity, good n bad, lies n truth,forgiveness n revenge, work hard n lazyness, attachment n dont care. Paradoxically u have to be n accept in two opposite plarity, in order to have optimal performance.

U have to be half good guy n half bad guy. Without being good guy u woulg not have friends. You have to be bad guy also so people would not attack you, you attack people. Watch the chronicals of Ridick.

You have to ork hard on very good at something or a goal,but paradoxically you have to also not care about the thing you are after so you would not get streesed out.

Seek revenge, but at the same time give forgiveness so revenge wont pollute ur mind n waste resourse, it is actually a war strategy of allocating resources.

Work hard, ply hard.
Be hard n soft.
Tai chi.
positivity and negativity
doing and wuwei
faith and fear

All are needed and need to be tuned and exist together

I always cannot figure when to use ying when to use yang. On 16 august 2009 i made the link of tuning. It is like Oracle or karate or go. Between two opposite polarity, you adjust the different porportions. The goal of your tuning is to have the higest system performance in that situation, a good guide is asxwhar a famous car racer said; smooth, smooth, smooth.
Then on the same day at 10.15 pm l have a conversation with ur mom about this n i realize that the tai chi symbol already has show all the way of dealing yjng n yang polarity. The two black n white tadpoles shows good n bad is needed. The white tadpole has a smaler black tadpole in it, showing that you cannot be one hundred percent white but instead you around 80-20 ratio with black or else you will be stressed out. The dividing line btween black n white is a S curve showing the timing of transition between black n white , the rhythm, like night n day, half time u have to be good or work hard, half time u have to be bad n lazy, one follow by the other like night n day, this solve the tuning timing problem.

tai chi : accept evil to produce power

if i accept evil, i will have relaxation, and power comes from relaxation, like karate, so is objectivity, everything is fractal.

in tai chi when the enemy push you, you dont retreat, instead you change your body configuration. When life push you, you change from good to bad guy.

Though chinese is crappy in many ways, but we invented tai chi, wei qi, and tao, or understanding that is a totally different level from earth. For instance chess is like 1+1, but wei qi is calculus.

Weight on the balls of your feet. Don't let your knees droop inwards (i.e. open the stance properly). Keep your back straight. Keep your stance dynamic - i.e. don't try to act like a stone but learn to move in it, to it, from it and with it.

By "sinking in" I mean that one should find a correct way to open the stance and drop into it. For most, the most comfortable stance height is below their "ow, now it hurts" -level. And, as it happened with Rami at first - it often is easier to step into stance than just drop straight to it. It was actually interesting to see it - when Rami just dropped downwards and tried to take the stance, everything went wrong - stance, balance, everything. When he stepped into the stance, he opened his hip joints properly and could sink a lot deeper into stance, as well as use the stance properly (move in it, with it and from it). That was the point he begun working with the technique and, nowadays, knows how to "build" the stance also without stepping into it.

After learning how the stance is done as a low version, one can actually apply the principles into higher, narrower "shikodachi" as well - and to do a shikodachi without opening the hips or feet at all (i.e. use the principles instead of an external form). I think that it's the idea of pretty much every karate movement - to exaggerate, drill and understand the principles that are later freely in use even when the external form doesn't show at all.

will power rules

about two days ago, i rediscover willpower, previously i have problem with willpower because it gets too tense, now i mix willpower with relaxation, ying and yang.

forget about feel your feelings, healing, breathing etc etc, only willpower works. Willpower is defined as; getting it done without caring pain or difficulties. it is the prefrontal lobe without emotion.

the seals training typifies willpower.

I notice in my life, everytime i got into difficulties is because my will power went down, i go more for happiness instead of getting things done, but the truth is if you directly go for happiness you will end up in trouble, always go for knowledge success first.

mindfulness is a subset of willpower but incomplete, so is positive thinking. All of this need willpower to function.

Meditation, concentration and horse stance strengthen will power. So is karate and body building because willpower is required to deliver a high nervous signal to the muscles.

Karate is indirectly related to willpower.

Just be, ying yang and dialectic

I was so stressed out no technique worked.

Then i "just be", accept the world as it is, not wanting to change, immediately i got happy.

But just be i cannot improve.

Another insight: this is the problem of ying and yang. Looking at the ying yang symbol, i notice that just be and goal orientation can coexist and they must because both of them are needed. But depending on occasion, one polarity must be dominant than the other, just like the tai chi symbol, eg one big yang, one small ying.

So i have to set goal, after the goal stabilized i have to just be and let the goal runs its cause.

When there is pain, it is always using the wrong tools (ying or yang), just like tuning a machine or oracle. When the right mind state is used, there is always smoothness, or happiness.

Remember smooth.

When you are suffering, usually thinking in the opposite direction would go into the correct mind state.

This reminds of dialectic.

Oracle is the best way for positivity

Today i read the positivity book by Barbara Fredrickson and i think have something to look forward to is the best way to increase positivity, instead of mindfulness, or gratitude.

Oracle always offers endless novelty, excitement, trill of conquest when found new book in its land of oz.

We are always more inspired by novelty instead of gratitude for the usual.That is why Xbox works better than gratitude or prayer and Oracle works better than Xbox

horse stance is a great exercise

1. Mental clarity and freshness
2. Pulls the energy down from the head to the legs so to reduce anxiety and depression.
3. Improve the ease of movement in kumite.
4. The best exercise i know that strenghten the core muscle, better than pilates.


I am doing 1 minute 20s right now.

To perform horse stance longer, i have to relax physically and mentally.

recommended books

I had someone ask me what books I recommend. I really based my initial game on David Sklansky's "Texas Holdem" and "Texas Holdem for advanced players". It's really good for limit holdem...the super system from doyle brunson is also worth a read.

That'll give you the basics but after that it's all about experience. Learn and then unlearn the books.

Find inner peace in hacking

i was anxious here and there, no technique works.

Then i remember that SQL performance tuning book is too unstructured, doesnt lead me to anywhere. And i hacked for a better sql tuning book.

found Dan Tow SQL tuning, a great book which explains step by step. Immediately my anxiety disolved....

Just focus on the positive

There is one simple technique, instead of one thousand technique to cover everything, use one simple technique, just like gyaku in karate. That is to focus on the positive, to remind yourself to focus on the positive, no need other techniques.

Trying to be better, to reach enlightenment is actually focusing on solving the problem; focusing on the problem; focusing on the negative.

i look at my son, he is so beautiful i think (instead of thinking about the bills and H1n1), i focus on the positive, i feel better.

If i dont focus on the positive now, and trying to be efficient focus on the negative to solve problem, the pressure builds up, i will go to 1 hour movie, or eat too much, or make a stupid career move, or ignoring my son, and focus on Oracle 2 feet books, ends up even slower. Focus on the positive is more efficient.

If i sidetrack into negative, i pull myself back into positive, again and again, 76 times a day.

More pressing problems

Sometimes i think i am writing this to escape more pressing problem such as financial problems and the current swine flu threat to Ryan. Thus the treasure chest has the main ingredients installed, and the minor details i will not update, and tackle my more serious problems.
